This is the beginning, even if it also somehow feels like an ending. We’ve approached the news industry as true beginners and our naivete has gotten us this far. The app is out! It’s Such a strange decision to fight to the finish for an industry at historical lows but it feels like it’s the right thing to do.
When jrnal was just a dream, a dream made up of a deck of PDFs, Thomas from Time Inc, Carlos from The Guardian, Sarah from The Economist, Brieux from So Press, Jade from The Carton, Lina from Yuca, Sophie from Dazed, Adèla from Soffa, Vince from TCO London (Little White Lies & Huck), Jacquie & Rika from Financial Times, Maria from The Washington Post, Laurent from Politis, Bertrand and Valery from Sophia, Sissi from Incarnatio (Normal), Chi from The Telegraph, and Aurelie from Ideat were all there, and without them we probably would have given up. They gave us attention, advice and occasionally threw in to fight for us.
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the publishers who have already agreed to join us and those who hopefully will join soon. In no particular order, I want to give a special thanks to:
Catherine from 24h01, Daniel from NZZ Mediengruppe, Elliot from Lagom, Johannes from Süddeutsche Zeitung, Franziska from Die Welt (Axel Springer), Vincent from l’Opinion, Matt from Rankin, Liz from Lodestars and Anthology, Christian from The Travel Almanac, Laurie from Artpress, Martin from The Independent, Michelle from L’humanité, Mary-Madeleine from La Croix, Hev from 212, Mikal from Brygg, Giannie from Ubiqwist, Paola from By Cartography, Justinien from The Migrant Journal, Thomas from Les Others, Clement from ID (Vice), Severine from Beaux Arts, Marina from The Gourmand, Emily from Avaunt, Julia from Apartamento, Peter from Work that work, Hannah from Weapon of Reason, and Nicky from Whitcirc (ok, not a publisher, but I still wanted to give a special thanks to Nicky).
And to those we probably forgot to mention… ❤
We start here
jrnal goes live today. From this very moment, you can subscribe to your next favorite media platform. What you can expect is:
- Featured on jrnal. Be ready for the unexpected — the morning (articles to read), a reading list of portraits, interviews to be inspired by, a press review of the day and the best opinion columns;
- The full editions: there you’re able to read the complete edition of your newspapers & magazines;
- Bespoke service: One of jrnal’s pillars jrnal is curation, and as long as it is still possible, we will talk directly to every single jrnal subscriber. We really believe that when you come in from the internet info war, it’s nice to feel accompanied and supported.
This last point means that we’re opening our platform gradually. To the 400+ people currently on the waiting list, please give us couple of weeks to onboard every one of you. Check your mailbox every Thursday at 6:00pm (CST) to see if your subscription is ready.
Welcome to jrnal!
